Update on where I stand on the intial topic idea

After conducting more research, I have decided to continue with the topic that I chose in the intial blog post. The topic that I had intially chosen was about the impact of covid on college student's mental health. I beleive this is a crucial topic that is impacting many college students especially during this time, where they are isolated from others.

Online Research Results

While, researching about this topic I came through some terms that are directly associated with this topic. A term that was constantly used in many articles that is an mental health issue were depression, anxiety, psychological distress. When I searched up 'depression in college students', most of the articles that appeared were related to COVID. The other key terms had similar results. Wikipedia article titled 'Mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic' showed similar key terms that appeared on other articles and not only related to the US, but other countries included. Some articles that I found useful were "Update on the College Student Mental Health Crisis" by Annie Dennon and "Effects of COVID-19 on College Students’ Mental Health in the United States: Interview Survey Study" by Farzan Sasangohar.

The article "Update on the College Student Mental Health Crisis" it discusses some of the reasons why college students are facing mental health issues. Some reasons are abusive households, stress of family's health, and  loss of connection from friends. Throughout the years, the percentages of loneliness, anxiety, depression, and suicide has increased and this was pre-covid. This is an extremely useful article because it discusses the mental health issues that college students faced pre-covid and impact during covid.

In the article "Effects of COVID-19 on College Students’ Mental Health in the United States: Interview Survey Study" it describes a study conducted where the researcher studied if COVID had impact on the mental health of undergraduate students. The results show that many undergraduate students has experienced negative impacts on their mental health due to the pandemic. This study is extremely useful because it shows an in depth research that can help explain this issue in depth.

Post Research

After conducting this brief research, I have concluded that there are two sides to this issue, many poeple are aware of this issue, but there are no solutions. This pandemic is extremely dangerous so we cannot risk lives of college students by simply ignoring the dangers of it. Due to this reason, many college students are socially isolated that has negative impacts on their mental health. One side believes that we should not risk the lives of college students and the other side argues that the the social isolation from college has had negative mental health impact on college students. There are no solutions to either issue because college students are at risk either ways.
